IFOAM Programs On request from clients a review has been undertaken of the costs and benefits of the IFOAM program that all ACO clients currently operate under. Additionally ACO reviewed organic market access and international certification trends with respect to IFOAM market share and acceptability. As a result of these requests and the research, ACO has agreed to offer a Non-IFOAM program for clients. This is in line with our overall approach of offering choice to clients on a market access basis.

Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) The Japanese Agricultural Standard (JAS) law was revised and the new law has been implemented from 1st March 2006. As at October 2006, ACO is one of only four companies outside of Japan accredited under new strict Japanese laws for certification to the revised standard. The JAS mark is required for export of all products covered under the JAS organic standards, except where the importer already carries JAS certification.
ACO is also accredited to certify to the JAS organic livestock and livestock feed standards also implemented in March 2006. While the JAS organic livestock and livestock feed standards are a voluntary certification it is expected to gain popularity following BSE scares and food safety concerns.

For more information on JAS please find the following links to articles that have been published in BFA member magazine, the Australian Organic Business.
